How our photo color analysis works

  1. 1Find your faceAn on-device model maps 478 points on your face, so we know exactly where your cheeks, eyes and hairline are.
  2. 2Correct the lightingThe whites of your eyes are close to neutral, so we use them to cancel out yellow indoor light or blue shade.
  3. 3Sample your colorsWe measure your skin on the cheeks and forehead, your iris color, and your hair just above the hairline, ignoring shadows and shine.
  4. 4Match your seasonYour undertone, depth and contrast are compared against all 12 seasons to find your best match and a runner-up.
  5. 5Bonus: your face shapeThe same face map measures your forehead, cheekbones and jaw, so you also get your face shape and haircut and glasses picks.

Is my photo uploaded or stored?+

No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser using an on-device face model. Your photo never leaves your phone or computer, and nothing is saved unless you choose to save your result.

How accurate is photo color analysis?+

Cameras, lighting and beauty filters all shift colors, so no photo tool is perfect. We correct white balance using the whites of your eyes and let you fix anything we read wrong. Answering the 4 quick questions makes it noticeably more reliable.

What makes a good photo for color analysis?+

Face a window in daytime, with no flash, filters or heavy makeup. Look straight at the camera with your hair visible and your face filling most of the frame.

What if I dye my hair?+

Your season is based on your natural coloring. On the review screen, tap Change next to Hair and pick your natural color.
